I know I promised photos of my peony painting, but this one has me excited - so I'm going to claim artist's (and blog owner's) prerogative and show you my most recent (and final for this year I hope) sunflower painting.

My goal for this painting was vibrant colour and negative space. Negative space is the space around an object - like a backwards silhouette - and one of my favourite watercolourists, Linda Kemp, paints almost exclusively using negative space as her guide. I have always been inspired by negative shapes in my paintings - this was just taking it to a slightly greater level.

I'm titling this painting Spectrum, because there really is every colour of the rainbow in this painting. My photography doesn't do justice to the vibrance of the colour. I may be switching to moist pigment full time after this experiment.
