It's World Watercolor Month!

Watercolour has defined who I am for so many years, and I can't really imagine what it would be like to not see the world through "watercolour eyes." I study skies, trees, patterns of light and shadow and think "How would I paint that?," examining colours and responding to the beauty in my world with my paintbrush. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I can enjoy a beautiful scene without feeling "itchy fingers" to go and paint it, or snap a dozen (or a hundred!) reference photos. Just drinking in beauty is necessary and good, too! Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, Jasper, Canada

So a whole month dedicated to watercolour isn't really a stretch for me, and when Charlie O'Shields of Doodlewash contacted me and invited me to guest post on his web site, AND to kick off the first ever World Watercolor Month, of course I was delighted to be a part of the event! In my artist profile, I not only share my watercolour story, but I included a video lesson on sketching with the paintbrush, and a discount for one of my online classes, Watercolour Sketches. I'm also revealing a new giveaway, a great big watercolour prize package that you can enter here, and I'm giving even more by donating $1 from every course sold to the Dreaming Zebra Foundation, providing art supplies to unleash kids' creativity. I'll be posting actively on Instagram and Facebook, sharing new paintings and videos as I attempt to paint every day in July (it's always a challenge when the kids are on summer vacation!).
