Celebrating Winter: Watercolor Workshop

There are a few things about winter that have made it a season that inspires me to paint:

  • Studio time! Most of the local hobby artists I know do their painting in winter. Summer is so short, we try to be outdoors as much as possible. I love that I get more time to paint in winter.

  • Landscape insight: When the land is covered in snow, it’s easier to see contours and shapes that are usually obscured by growing things. It’s in winter that I have learned the most about how shadows fall on the landscape, about how the landscape is divided and how to paint perspective more effectively.

  • Color! This time of year we might have short days, but we get beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and when the sun is out, the spectrum of blue shadows on snow is so inspiring. I love a winter color scheme.

Because winter offers so much to the learning artist, I've made it a tradition to release a new workshop every year at the beginning of December. A holiday mini watercolor workshop is my way of celebrating the season (and giving you something for your Christmas list).

This year's Christmas mini course is something a little different; on December 3rd and 4th, 2019, I'll be recording four live video lessons, painting a series of winter scenes in watercolor. You can paint along with me!

Join the Celebrating Winter Watercolor Workshop with Angela Fehr

You'll learn in these lessons:

  • four different winter subjects painted in watercolor

  • how to paint an "intuitive" version of a reference photo

  • how to work in a series, developing several paintings at once

  • color mixing (and my favorite colors) for winter subjects

  • using value to create contrast and focal point in a painting

  • playful experimentation and warm ups in watercolor

This course is priced at $39 USD ($49 CAD) and when you purchase before December 2nd, you can join the lessons live, asking questions during the broadcast, and seeing the paintings develop in real time. If you can't join live, your enrollment also includes lifetime access to the course, so you can watch the lessons over and over again.

Celebrating Winter 2019 is now closed for enrollment.
